Post #6 The After Story

The story of Romeo & Juliet had a very tragic ending, but author, Shakespeare, never gave you the chance to see what would happen to the characters that now live without Romeo and Juliet in their lives. Nurse, Friar Lawrence, and Lord Capulet were all close to either Romeo or Juliet. Now that they live without them in their lives things have changed.

Above you see Nurse very happy with  Juliet who she raised.

Nurse had loved having I child so much " Thou wast the prettiest babe that e'er I nurs'd. An I might live to see thee married once, I have my wish" (56). She shows she wants her childeren to be happy, and she will have had her wish. After thinking it over, and she made sure she had enough money for two; she adopted a child of her own and named her little girl, Julietta, in memrance of Juliet.

Above you see Friar marrying Romeo and Juliet secretly.

As for Friar Lawrence, he opened his own marriage business, and he learned from his mistakes invite the parents to the wedding. He still continued to be a friar, but considered this more of a hobby because he loved making young lovers happy. "Come, come with me, and we will make short work; For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorpirate two in one" this is when he is about to wed Romeo and Juliet (150).

This ending may seem happy, but it wasn't a fairy tale ending for all. You see Lord Capulet lost his wife from disease. He is trying to get through it with Lord Montague, who had already lost his wife. They built a new monument together, to bury all their dead relatives. This one even bigger, The Montague and Capulet Monument, the monument represented and proved to everyone that Montagues and Capulets and enemies no more. " O brother Montague, give me thy hand. This is my daughter's jointure, for no more Can I demand" (302) On the day of  Romeo and Juliet's death the whole town gathers around the monument and places flowers around it. It has know become a tradition. So the book may have come to an end, but the story continues.

Post #5 Decicions...... Belong to Parents or Children?

In Act IV of Romeo & Juliet, Juliet seeks advice from Friar Lawrence about marrying Paris, when she secretly is already married to Romeo, who has been banished from Verona for killing Tybalt. Tybalt was Juliet's dear cousin and Juliet still loved Romeo anyway. This is how strong there love was for each other.

When Juliet goes to seek advice from the friar.

When Juliet goes to see Friar, he comes up with a plan for the two lovers to be together.  In this plan Juliet will drink a potion that will cause her to become dead for forty~two hours, and then the lovers will run off together when Juliet wakes. She goes along with the plan even though it is seriously dangerous. What will happen to Juliet?


If Juliet would have just told her parents that she was already married and in love with a Montague, Romeo, I think that maybe her mother would have eventually gave in, to her daughter's powerful love because mother's love romantic stories and want their daughters to be happy" Speak briefly, can you like of Paris' love" she actually gives Juliet the choice (Shakespeare 58). On the other hand I believe that Juliet's father would like her to marry Paris no matter what and nothing can change that, considering how strongly he reacted when she refused to marry Paris,"Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch!" (Shakespeare 214). I do think her parents reactions would be even stronger if she would have told them that she was already married to Romeo.

Post #4 Nurse's Diary

Dear Diary,

This morning I was torn between my life and Juliet's, who is practically my own. I couldn't bare to pick a side. This internal conflict inside me could have made me lose my job if Capulet or The Lady found out what I had done to help the girl, but the young lovers, the way they looked at each other was like magical. I had to do something.

After thinking it over, I thought what could possibly be done to make Juliet's parents be alright with the lovers being together. I would have no say in the final decision, no one would be there to argue on Juliet's side. I did what I thought was best for Juliet and her family. I hope that I wasn't to selfish, should I have taken risk and stood up for the young lovers. I mean, I really hope that at least Juliet doesn't feel that I did her wrong. She may never speak to me again. I may have kept my job and loyalty, but I have lost something greater, my dear Juliet.

I have to do something, but there is nothing that can be done. I know Juliet, she will try to get out of this marriage. I could wake up the next day and she could be gone, and this is how she will remember me. I hope she will remember the good times we had, and not just what happened back there. When the room was filled with silence and hate, I had no other choice, I wasn't myself back there. It felt like I was helping the situation, but I may have made matters worse. Juliet trusted me, and I feel that trust is lost. I hope she sees the good in this doing.

Post #3 The Secret Wedding Planners

Throughout Act II in Romeo & Juliet the two important characters that try to make the secret lovers relationship and marriage arrangements work are Friar Lawrence and Nurse, but they do this behind the Montagues and Capulets backs, which is very risky, because of this they could lose their trust. They decide that love is more important. Did they make the right decision? 

I would have to say that I would do the same thing because although love and trust are probably a few of the most important things in the world, love proves to be stronger. If people really love you than they will eventually forgive you if you break their trust because they don't want to lose you through a silly fight, they love you to much. It is shown that love is more important than trust when the people who love Romeo and Juliet, Friar and Nurse, decide to help arrange a secret wedding. "Come, come with me, and we will make short work; For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one." Friar is saying we will make this short and will not leave until you are united as one.  Always remember if life throws a situation at you do what your heart says and remember the people you love.

Post #2 Conflict and Foils

A good drama always has conflict. In  the Shakespeare classic Romeo & Juliet there is a conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues. These two enemies give the tragedy it's plot. In Act I Scene V a conflict begins to deepen when Tybalt a well known Capulet notices Romeo, a Montague, at the Capulet's party. Luckily Father Capulet stops Tybalt from starting a fight, "He shall be endur'd. What, goodman boy! I say he shall go to! Am I the master here, or you? Go to! You'll not endure him! God shall mend my soul! You'll make mutiny among my guests! You will set cook-a-hoop! You'll be the man!" In this he is saying I am the master here and you are not to disturb my guests, but this makes Tybalt have even more anger for the Montagues and ensures his revenge.

Mercutio, Romeo's friend, is a foil to Romeo. A foil is someone who has qualities that contrast to another. One way that they are foils is that Romeo doesn't want to go to the party he wants to quit love, "The game was ne'er so fair, and I am done." While Mercutio eagerly wants to go, "Tut, dun's the mouse, the constable's own word. If thou art dun, we'll draw thee from the mire Or, save your reverence, love, wherein thou stickest Up to ears. Come, we burn daylight, ho! In this he is saying Nonsense, be as still as a mouse. If you're a horse, we'll get you out of the mud. Now come on we're burning day light. This proves that even though Romeo and Mercutio are friends they are also foils of each other.

Post #1 Your choices, Your Fate

People say your choices can effect the fate of the rest of your life. Is this so? I believe that your choices can make an impact on your life. Your future or fate is supposedly to be planned out already when you are born, but their is always your free will and ability to make your own choices, but does someone know the choices you are going to make before you make them? This is fate.




In Romeo and Juliet's time period your marriage was arranged, you had no choices. Juliet's future with her new husband was planned too, by her parents, but fate already new that she would meet Romeo and fall in love. Your fate is impacted on the choices you make, but in the end your choices have already been made because they are planned out for you. They already have a part in your fate because fate knows you will make those choices.
